Senate Youth Leader Program

The United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school seniors interested in pursuing careers in public service.  The 53rd annual program will be held in Washington, D.C., from March 7-14, 2015.  Once selected, two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity will gather for an intensive week-long study of the federal government and the people who lead it.  The overall mision of the program is to help instill knowledge of the American political process and a lifelong commitment to public service.

Legislative Session 2015
Don't forget to follow us Facebook and Twitter
for the latest updates from the Capitol.

The legislative session starts in January.  The Texas Private Schools Association focuses on promoting sound legislative policies that protect the independence of private schools and prevent arduous regulations.  We also work to promote the following policies:

1.  Maintaining before and after-school and summer child care licensing exemptions for private schools.

2.  Preserving the diversity of pre-k options, particularly with the increase of universal pre-k across the country.

For more information about why this issue needs attention, view this paper by Dr. Lori Taylor at The Bush School of Government & Public Service.  She argues that any effective and efficient pre-k expansion must include private providers in a partnership.

3.  A robust parental school choice program including a tax-credit scholarship for corporate entities.

For more information about the tax credit scholarship legislation, view this video that explains it in more detail.
