Antonin Scalia's Legacy for Private Schools

As influential as Scalia's 282 majority opinions and "occasional" dissents have been to the court's overall vitality, his ideas,
words, and votes have had particular significance over the years on decisions affecting private education.  Read more about Scalia's legacy related to private schools in the CAPE Outlook

School Safety Questionnaire - Due April 4th

For the past 12 months, the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC), in conjunction with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), has provided targeted training, technical assistance, and online resources to support school emergency planning.

In order to continuously improve services and provide the best resources possible, they are asking that we complete the District Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) Self-Assessment Tool to help them understand our needs and efforts in addressing these needs.  For private schools, the "district" would be the school.

Successful Year of District Meetings

The Texas Private Schools Association has 10 geographic districts across the state that are represented by one or two board members per district. Board members help coordinate meetings with legislators and local heads of school to discuss private school issues.  Dr. Jerry Eshleman of Cornerstone Christian Schools in San Antonio hosted Mayor Ivy Taylor in an important discussion about school choice and the importance of private schools.

Dr. Larry Taylor of Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano hosted Representative Jodi Laubenberg, Representative Jeff Leach and Senator Van Taylor (pictured below) in a recap of the 84th legislative session:

Rod Gilbert of Regents School of Austin hosted Representative Jason Isaac (pictured below) and Representative Paul Workman in February in a discussion that focused on upcoming bills and items to watch in the 85th legislative session.

Galen Hoffstadt of St. James Episcopal School in Corpus Christi also hosted an interesting discussion with Chairman Todd Hunter about how to be more effective advocates for our private school issues in the legislature.  He has years of experience and is the Chairman of the very important Calendars committee, so his hints were very valuable and taken to heart!
